Way back when, (like, almost a year ago, which is actually not that long ago when I think about it), I’ve started to write words on Medium. You know, that “WordPress-like social network” for those who are willing to express themselves through the written word. Yeah, that one!
By “started to write” I mean, I’ve written down a single “article”, or whatever you wanna call that, and since the beginning of CrucialUpdat3.com, never written a single word again. “No time to write…” excuse again, of course. One can recognize the pattern, obviously.
What I actually wrote was some sort of poetic/artsy approach of what, I believe, it means to be a Game Designer, or rather what it feels like. So without further ado, down bellow one can find a refurbished version of the text(you can also find the original here if that rocks your boat).
“We assemble dimensions and architect universes.
We create worlds on top of worlds.
We are giving meaning to the meaningless.
We are able to produce an origin story of an empty cup of water, give it mechanisms, rules and purpose to exist, interact and function with a given purpose in the environment that otherwise wouldn’t make any sense.
We create meaningful connections out of thin air.
We connect the non-connectable.
We create relationships.
We break relationships.
We can make sense out of most ridiculous things that you can think of.
We live inside of our games long before there was a single letter written about them. It is happening right now, it is happening as we speak.
We can see these things so clear, that if we had the ability to manifest it in real life, best believe that we would make it so.
It is sometimes ridiculous to even comprehend that fact. Essentially, we are not designing games, we are designing experiences.
It is almost godlike.”
So what does it mean to you? How do you see it? …I wonder.
